Pastor pondered about Mental Health today ...

Updated: Nov 24, 2019

Mental health is as important as spiritual health. Our minds can be influenced by what we see, read, hear or experience. I was meditating on Philippians 4:1-8 and 2 Corinthians 10:1-5. Our minds are bombarded with all kinds of thoughts daily. This gives us a think list and a basis for our thought life to let us consider 4Ps this morning.

We are to think of Pure thoughts. This is opposed to unedifying and unhelpful thoughts that do not build up faith and holiness in the Lord.

Then we are also to be given to Positive thoughts that promote love, hope and joy in the Lord, and not negative thoughts that draw us away from God.

Thirdly, we are to think Peaceful thoughts that are against vengeance, hate, anger or frustration. There is to be also careful regulation of our thought life.

Paul speaks of being transformed by the renewal of our mind in Romans 12:2. Finally consider Purposeful thoughts daily which are concentrated and focused on the Word of God and its teachings and content that build up sound knowledge and faith for the advancement of the kingdom of the Lord.

In my counselling experience, I have heard from youths who shared about hearts and minds being disturbed by unhelpful thoughts which in turn affect our spiritual and physical well-being and even their studies and relationships adversely.

We need to pray and fully consider how we may regulate and manage our mental life with a spiritual and biblical perspective.

Ponder deeply over these things and discipline your mind into a healthy mental life. Romans 12:1-3
